Open Source Roundup

You can use open source in any platform. Windows, Linux, OSX it doesn't matter. I talk a lot about Open Source on this blog. So I thought... What about those folks who might want to give open source a try? They don't want to go full blown Linux or FreeBSD they just want to take some apps for a spin. They run Windows most likely. So I came up with a list of applications for an open source desktop. Here is the Open Source Desktop List:

Office/Productivity:
- Open Office Office Suite M$-Office compatible
- Mozilla FireFox - web browser
- Mozilla Thuderbird - email/newsreader
- 7 - Zip - Zip File Manager
- Memoranda - Personal Information Manger/Calendering
Graphics:
- GIMP - Photo Processing
- Sodipodi - 2d vector graphics
- InkScape - 2d - vector graphics
- Blender - 3d modelling and rendering
Sound:
- CDeX - MP3 ripper
- Audacity - Sound Editor
Programming IDE:
- Eclipse - Cross Platform Multi-Language IDE Framework
- Dev C++ Open Source C/C++ IDE and Compiler

while I am a frequent user of Vim I compiled this list for the relatively non-technical user. In other words for the person who wants WYSIWYG and point and click. It's not for the guy who hand codes his own LaTex :-)
