The Perl Secretary

Right now Computers can do a lot of things. They can automate many different aspects of our lives. They can control our houses, keep track of our favourite websites, store our favourite music, keep track of our contacts and appointments, take us shopping, show us the latest movies at the theatre and even help us buy the ticket. What they don't do is automate our organization of these separate acts. In short they haven't managed to replace the personal secretary yet.

It's not as if it couldn't be done. We have the technology to do it right now. But no one has attempted to pull it all together yet. I want an application that not only keeps track of my personal information but also can automatically schedule things for me. I want an application that remembers my wifes birthday or our anniversary and automatically fires up a web browser to the local flower shop or candy store when I log on to my computer. I want an app that will give me a list of the latest movies playing that I might like on days when my evening is free without me having to initiate the action. I want an application that automatically sends an email to the babysitter when I finish planning what is obviously a romantic weekend for my wife and I, or at least reminds me I need to do that. In short I want a personal secretary on my computer. And since I am a proponent of the open source movement. I just might take their mantra to heart. I just might build it myself.

Ummm.... anyone feel like they might want to help? I have a lot on my plate right now. hehe, so this is more just a personal record for myself that I want to build this someday. When I get the time.
